These are heroes and heroines who will be remembered for bringing Britain back into Olympic glory after years in the doldrums.  

I can remember the year when we won only one gold.  And if I am not mistaken that was for clay pigeon shooting!  We have come a long way since then.  And if this is what we do in smoggy Beijing – think of what we ought to do on home turf in 2012. 

So in 2012 we will want to look back on where we came from.
