Children's party? - Keep the memory alive!

Great Album Idea -  Kids’ Stuff

Children – at parties or otherwise enjoying themselves – provide material for the best albums.

Childrens party

Adults love children’s parties as much as the children. They are the ones too who enjoy looking back at a well produced record of that delightful birthday party or other event. Here are some tips to guide you in creating an album – for your own record – or for the parents, grandparents for that occasion.

Our recommendation - with  OPUS Albums.

(of course we are biased!)

Print & Bind Start with Print&Bind – quick, easy and economical; functional and, above all good looking – even beautiful. 15 (expandable to 30) pages of quality photo-glossy paper, neatly bound into an elegant compact plastic cover.  Pages can be added or removed at will.   Using Fotoslate 4 – or your favourite editor, make up one or more pages for each event – print and add to your expanding record.  Add your story line too.  Whenever you have something more then get the camera out – shoot, edit print and add a few pages.  It’s so easy, enjoyable – and gives such pleasure. When you are confident about your albums - or want to be more ambitious - for a small extra investment you can have the high quality OPUS Photo Art album.  We recommend soft textured paper.

Ten Tips to make a turn a Chidren’s Party to a life time Memory

OPUS Album Tip 1

Relate to the hosts – If you are a parent, then this doesn’t apply.  Otherwise it is best to talk to the hosts about your interest in photography and suggest that you want to make an album for it (It is a wonderful way of saying ‘thank you’ – we use it all the time now!  So it is assumed that the album is primarily for the hosts (and a copy for you too!).

 OPUS Albums Tip 2

Know the party plan.  If you know what is going to happen then you can be a bit prepared (As far as you can be prepared when children are concerned).OPUS Albums Tip 3 Have a few formal photos.  These will generally be the child – blowing out candles – the immediate family etc. (Don’t try and get a picture of everybody!).

OPUS Albums Tip 4

Take pictures of the surroundings  A good one is the party table or buffet before anybody has been there.  A couple of ‘after the event’ pictures will round off the occasion.  The empty bouncy castle, ball pool etc.  These may come in useful as ‘props’ in the album.

OPUS Albums Tip 5

Use a wide angle lens.  Whilst the temptation will be to use telephoto to get the candid shot, wide angle ensures that you can get close-up groups in.  For the longer distant shot the resolution will still be good enough even if you crop out quite a small bit.  The exception to this is, especially if you are outside, when you can get candid groups from a distance using telephoto.

Use bounced flash – This will make you less conspicuous – and it will also make the pictures less severe.

Take pictures from children’s level – Don’t forget you are taller than them.  Crouch down to their level for a lot of the pictures. When there is a lot of activity use burst mode.  Most pictures will be useless – a few will be great!

OPUS Albums Tip 6

Be part of the party – Don’t detract from it, and don’t make yourself the centre of attention.  However enter into the spirit of the party and the children will co-operate with you.  There will be the show-offs.  Often take the pictures of them to satisfy them – but just once.  Of course you can discard pictures later  And remember the kids will run to you to see the picture on the digital screen.  Encourage the camera shy – with pictures grouped with their friends.

OPUS Albums Tip 7

Add other material   - The invitation – something about the venue and date.

OPUS Albums Tip 8

Add anecdotes. What happened – the circumstances

OPUS Albums Tip 9

Embellish the album  but do not clutter it up.  Use a relevant background – maybe from a picture – or maybe a generality – such as the ball pool shown above (especially if there was a ball pool)

OPUS Albums Tip 10

Group the events – Not necessarily a chronological record.  Make sure that it is balanced – not too much on one aspect – but not too little either.

Finally - Enjoy yourself – don’t make heavy weather of the album.   After all you are doing it for your own pleasure too!
