Here is some advice that I recently gave to a customer who was starting a new wedding photo business.
There are two approaches to making A3 albums
These are hard museum board cover albums with high quality
archival paper. The paper is post bound so that you can add or change sheets if
required (ideal if you make the occasional mistake - or deciding that a page
layout can be improved). The album comes with 20 sheets (40 pages) of paper
(double sided) - either soft textured natural white (good for weddings) or
smooth cotton high white - natural white - ideal for very clear matte images.
You can add about 5 extra sheets - using 10 sheet refill packs of
paper.
We don't offer the satin paper - for weddings the higher quality
archival papers are more acceptable.
The cover does not have a window. We don't have printing either
as standard - but this could be arranged.
An A3 album costs £37.95 less discounts for regular customers,
buying 5 at one time, being a member of one of our listed camera clubs - plus
delivery £4.47 and VAT.
Here you have permanently bound albums. You have to start with a
Unibind binding machine (either the Docustyle £169) or the Photo Book Creator
(£229) - I'd recommend the latter). This is a one off cost and you can bind
everything from short run books to proposals to general office
documents.
A3 covers are 'black amathus' and come in various binding widths
taking up about 35 sheets. Covers can have windows of various shapes and
optional metal corners.
You can choose whatever paper you like. We have the full Innova
and Olmec range. Again for weddings I would recommend the Innova range - and
the only double sided paper are the two grades above.
For price comparison you would be talking £8.99 for the cover. 20
sheet of double sided soft texture paper (40% of a box of 50) would cost £27. -
so about the same.
Of course we are the kings of print-your-own. For the £300+ flush
mount albums we work with Memory Collections. One reason for choosing them is
that they also work wit Dg Foto Art the software I would
highly recommend if you are doing weddings.
