Dg Foto Art - a hit at SWPP - and good news on prices

swppLast weekend about 5000 photographers visited the SWPP convention at the Novotel Hammersmith, West London.

It was a good show – not of course as big as next month’s Focus on Imaging at the NEC, Birmingham – but directed at the professional photographer.

Many attended the 100 or so lectures.  Being stand-bound I could not.  Several speakers I would like to have heard.

There were many professionals there.  Some giving and attending seminars – some visiting the booths – and I had a number of good conversations.  You learn a lot from them.  But what struck me was the number who said “I’m just starting”.

Are these professionals – or like me amateurs with a good camera.  Maybe some were working for a city bank a month ago and thought “What can I do?  I’ll be a photographer”.  No formal training – just set up shop and learn on the job.

It’s so easy to get started now.   Gone are the days when you took the picture on expensive film – with very limited scope for subsequent adjustment.   Now you can take zillions of pictures (some will be good) and manipulate the results to your heart’s content.   The true ‘pro’ will be more productive because he has got it right first time; and will be faster in post processing too.  His or her work will have that added flair.

But he has more competition.
